Become a College Student Mentor

Our College Success program is always looking for college students to serve as mentors to high school students. Training is included, and you can learn more about what the student mentor role requires below.

  • Each mentor will work with 2-3 cohorts (at once), during the academic year. The mentor will stay with the same group of students through their senior year of high school
  • Two cohort meetings will take place on the college campus, and will involve a tour and/or campus event (February, April)
  • Time commitment: 18 hours total (~2 hours a month)
  • Compensation: $500 stipend per mentor each year
  • Qualifications:
    • Sophomore or junior in college
    • First generation and/or low income student
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA
    • Experience working with youth / in mentorship preferred, but not required

Become a Staff Mentor

Guidance mentors provide assistance to college students as they navigate the intricacies of college life and plan for employment afterward. Your level of involvement can vary, training is provided, and more information about the role is provided below.

  • Each mentor can work with 2 - 4 cohorts (separately - depends on mentor availability and time commitment)
  • Time Commitment: 7 hours / 10 hours / 13 hours per month (2 / 3 / 4 cohorts)
  • Compensation: $25-30/hr
    • Mentor for 2 cohorts: $2100-2520
    • Mentor for 3 cohorts: $3000-3600
    • Mentor for 4 cohorts: $3900-4680
  • Qualifications:
    • College graduate (bachelors degree required)
    • Experience working with youth / in mentorship required
    • Employed, willing to list employer as reference
    • Minimum 3.0 college GPA and/or completion of degree within 4 years
    • Experience and history in Hartford, CT required (work, education, or other)
    • First generation and/or low income background preferred, but not required
    • Recent college graduate (within last 5 years) highly preferred, but not required
